| Cynthia BachCynthia Bach is a Los Angeles-based jewelry designer whose classical, yet innovative work has been featured exclusively at Neiman Marcus stores nationwide since 1991. Her work is influenced by European regalia, art, and architecture after having lived in Germany for thirteen years. Bach spent two years apprenticing in Europe and studying metalworking at Munich’s KuntsGerwerbe Schule. Afterwards, she returned to the U.S. to complete her B.A. in Fine Arts in Texas.
While attending college in Texas, she apprenticed with master jeweler Jim Matthews. In 1981, she and Matthews opened a jewelry store and workshop in Abilene, which they ran together for ten years. In 1991 the two were courted by Van Cleef & Arpels, and relocated to Beverly Hills. Matthews ran the company’s West Coast fabrication department and Cynthia designed pieces for an elite clientele.
Bach’s foray into the realm of heraldic jewelry began in the same year when a customer commissioned her to design a crown brooch for an anniversary present. Her ensuing series of miniature crown paintings served as the designs for her original crown brooch collection that was then sought out by Neiman Marcus. Bach’s jewelry designs include crown brooches, rings, bracelets, and earrings as well as scepter and orb inspired charms.
Cynthia’s five metalsmithing techniques include: brocade work, gadrooning (grooves), hand engraving, granulation (beading), satin finishing, and a method of hand weaving gold. The jewelry is handmade and crafted almost entirely of 18 karat yellow gold, with a sprinkling of platinum and rose gold pieces.
Bach has graced the world with her jewelry, dressing stars on their special nights, such as the unforgettable Cate Blanchett on Oscar night 2001 covered in ornate 18 karat body jewelry. Other well known Cynthia Bach fans include A-list actresses such as "Sex in the City" star Kim Cattrall, Halle Berry, Julianna Margulies, LeAnn Rimes, and many more. She is constantly introducing new stylings and concepts, and her work reflects the most current fashion trends while maintaining a timeless design integrity.
