Eliot HoltzmanEliot Holtzman has been looking through a camera lens since he was fourteen. His event and portrait assignments take him all over the world. One month, he might find himself capturing the spirit of a spectacular wedding in Singapore and the next with a family on a ranch in Montana.
Eliot works in the tradition of the great art photographers, believing that a photograph’s power lies in the ongoing dialogue between the subject in a photograph and the observer of that photograph. Like the great picture-makers before him, Eliot is committed to realizing the initial image in the camera’s lens as a printed photograph. By doing much of the finish work in his studio, he’s able to dwell on the details. Eliot and his staff are masters of both archival black & white printing and custom framing. His studio offers fine-art quality presentations ranging from albums and portfolio boxes to desk frames, wall composites, and larger wall portraits.
For Eliot, emotion—the genuine emotion of the people he photographs and the profound feelings a finished photograph engenders—is not only his inspiration but also his reward. A beautifully finished portrait gives us time to contemplate the person in the portrait as well as our relationship with her or him, and with ourselves. This is why great portraits affect us so deeply.
Eliot received a fine arts degree from the San Francisco Art Institute. His studio is in San Rafael, California where he lives with his wife Margot and their three children.
