When you think of the party business and all the fun and glamour of throwing fabulous parties in celebration of life's wonderful occasions, it's easy to get caught up in a fantasy world that's really not reality. My clients and I have been blessed in so many ways: health first and foremost, but also family, friends and the financial resources to mark life's milestones with memories that last forever. It's easy to forget that in reality there are so many people in need of the basics: food, clothing, shelter. Hence Robert Kalt, the answer to so many prayers.
We met at an event honoring the top wedding industry professionals and I was immediately touched by his calling. As Robert says, "doing what's right with what's left". In my heart, at that very moment, I pledged my commitment to do what I could to help. It's as easy as a phone call and Robert does the rest. He'll arrange for a team of people to pick up everything left over: food, flowers, carpets, fabrics. Anything that would normally be thrown away, including even the cork wine stops which are recycled and turned into mattress stuffing. The amount of absolute waste after each party is unbelievable, and helping others is a phone call away, anywhere in the states. Well worth the time and minimal expense when you think how much good can really come from so little. It's now a mandate with the event producers in the office that they keep Robert in the loop when we're doing events.
I hope you'll read Robert's bio, and just like I did, make a commitment in your heart that you'll keep Robert and the Special E company in mind when you next throw a party.
It's a simple phone call to make a difference and give back. Don't miss out.
Tips from Robert Kalt
- Your wedding or event makes a statement about who you are. Repurposing the
leftovers and giving back to your local community are great ways to show you care about the planet and people in need. It also encourages others to do the same at the events they may be planning themselves.
- Decorate with flowers that are organic, grown locally, and in “seasonal sync” with the date of your program. Following the event, extend their usefulness by having them delivered to a nursing home or hospital where they’ll bring cheer to the elderly and patients that are sick.
- If you plan on donating flowers from your event, let each of your guests know about your charitable intentions by highlighting it on a tent card that accompanies each place setting. This will encourage your guests to
pay it forward and do the same at the events they plan.
- Select caterers that offer dishes made from locally-grown and organic ingredients. The greater the distance the items on your menu have to travel, the more CO2 that ends up in our atmosphere.
- Rather than letting them sit in the back of a closet, make arrangements to donate your bridesmaid dresses to underprivileged girls who cannot otherwise afford a nice dress for their school prom or other special occasion.
- Ask attendees/guests to bring one can of soup or similar product to the event they’re attending. Then, make arrangements to have the food taken to a local food bank or pantry to help feed families that are hungry and homeless.
