Brian Boye

Brian Boye is a man of impeccable fashion style. He's always "put together" in the right outfit for just the right occasion. A friend of mine since moving to New York, I've watched Brian closely over the years and have seen his career and success grow. As fashion editor for Men's Health Magazine, he knows the latest trends in fashion and the dos and don'ts of personal appearance. His advice shouldn't be taken lightly; after all, how we look is an important barometer of how we feel about ourselves. As shallow as it may seem, we live in a visual world and first impressions are lasting impressions, so make your first impression the best it can be. There's nothing wrong with sweatpants and sneakers on a lazy Sunday afternoon, but when it's time to dress for the office, an evening out on the town or you're meeting up with friends for a weekend getaway, Brian knows what to wear so you can feel confident about yourself and exude your own personal style.

Tips from Brian.

  • Find the best tailor in your area.
Don't know where to start? Ask people whose style you admire or a trusted retail salesperson. For only a lucky few does off-the-rack clothing fit perfectly. With a few minor fixes, though, even the most basic apparel looks more expensive -- and you will look better.
  • Travel lighter and faster.
Travel today has been reduced to a series of frustrating experiences. Simplifying the process wherever possible makes it a little easier. Travel with carry-on luggage whenever possible. It will save about an hour each way. A. Pick a color story for your trip. Whether it's black, white and navy, or any other versatile combination, the more you can wear the same clothing in different combinations, the less you need to bring. B. Use rolled up socks as stand-in shoe trees. While you’re at it, limit the number of shoes you bring. C. Travel with toiletries that meet FAA carry-on standards. D. Check in online the day before. Save time at the airport.
  • Get in touch with your inner OCD.
Most of us don't have an hour to spend planning out our look every morning. Organize clothing in your closet by style first, and color, second. Casual items in one section. Dress attire in another. Sweaters of the same weight and color folded together. Separate cool and warm weather clothing. Standing in your closet will be not only less taxing visually, but figuring out where to look and what to choose will take less time.
  • Edit.
The accumulation of ‘stuff’ slows us down. Crowded drawers and closets, filled with things you haven't worn in years isn't helping. Most of us wear about one third of the clothes we own over and over again. So, edit. Once or twice a year, take a hard look and weed out the things that you haven't worn in a year. Find a local charity or shelter and donate things that can benefit others.
  • Be Golden.
Great style and a well-managed life is nice, but I think we are best judged on how we treat others. I deal with a lot of personalties in the fashion world, from cold and calculating to generous and warm. I find the people who treat others the way they’d like to be treated are typically happy, rich in love, and sleep better at night.
